Press Releases 2020
SoftBank Corp. (“SoftBank”) today announced that as a top managerial priority, it will promote initiatives to increase corporate value and contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by resolving issues facing the international community as defined by the Sustainable Development Goals* (SDGs).
Under its corporate philosophy of “Information Revolution — Happiness for everyone,” SoftBank has worked to increase its corporate value. To make the philosophy a reality through its “Beyond Carrier” growth strategy, SoftBank and its subsidiaries (“the SoftBank Corp. Group”) have identified 6 priority issues (“materiality” or “key challenges”) as areas where it can harness its technologies — including 5G, IoT and AI — to help resolve issues facing society. Based on the concept of pursuing “a world where all things, information and minds are connected,” SoftBank will strive to grow the businesses of all companies in the SoftBank Corp. Group by addressing these key challenges.
To achieve this initiative, SoftBank established a SDGs Promotion Committee on March 24, 2020 as an advisory body to its Board of Directors. President & CEO Ken Miyauchi was appointed as the chief of SDGs promotion with ultimate responsibility for the SoftBank Corp. Group’s initiatives to achieve SDGs and sustainability activities. On April 1, 2020, the SDGs Promotion Office was newly established, and Fumihiro Aono, Executive Vice President & CHRO, was appointed as the executive officer in charge of SDGs promotion to advance SDGs and sustainability activities across the SoftBank Corp. Group.
Leveraging 5G, IoT, AI and its other technologies, SoftBank has been at the forefront of digital transformation (DX), providing new solutions that accelerate the development of industry and transform lifestyles. Going forward, all employees across the SoftBank Corp. Group will pursue the achievement of SDGs and will contribute to the realization of a sustainable society by resolving social issues.
